China already owns a huge part of the American debt -- the U.S. economy is just a marionnette and China is the puppeteer. China can shut down the country in one week if it wants to.

Care to explain the US military build up in the Pacific then?

China makes most of the world's manufactured products contributing to its high GDP output. With the money they take in they reinvest in the Dollar, thus making the Dollar high compared to the Yuan. Why do this? Cause they know the investment is worth the loan to the US. US has been living off foreign loans for too long. In fact China owns about 20% of all US treasury holdings!!!! (One can say they own 20% of the US to some degree, but not really). The US still needs to pay back this money to China WITH INTEREST. On top of that the US economy is growing at about 1.5% while China is growing more close to 10%. About 300,000 US citizens compared to 1.5 billion Chinese citizens. You do the math. The US as a world super power is coming to a end and it will be sooner than you think. China needs the US as a consumer, but this will not last forever. Eventually China will have a self sustaining economy and when it does.....GAME OVER.

The US has survived a civil war, several massive depressions, the great depression, 2 world wars, and being surrounded by imperial powers. I highly doubt the US is going to go anywhere. The US was ready to blow up the entire planet with nuclear bombs rather then let the Soviets win the cold war and fought for its independence against one of histories few hyperpowers. Do you really think the US is just going to let itself get bossed around?

Also the Chinese economy is slowing down and is expected to continue to do so in the future. Whether it will be hard slow down or done easily remains to be seen.

Then again, China's got its huge share of problems...
I guess the answer is "Who knows?" Maybe I ought to freeze myself.
