Thanks for the explanation. I'm ABC but my family is from Malaysia and I spent many summers there growing up. Have many fond memories of the country and always keep it on my radar, especially since one of my closest cousins decided to move back after college/grad school in the US. Lots of things to like about the country, but the politics sometimes makes me want to just give up and forget about it. It doesn't help that my parents already have...they have ZERO interest in ever going back except for short visits to see family.
I wonder if this is also an attempt to lure more caucasians to further dilute the Chinese population? Maybe not...I don't know.

If your parents are Malaysian-born Chinese, they will know EXACTLY about I am hinting around about. I know whites who converted to Islam and married Malays, but who still had to wait more than 15 years to get PR, and then you hear about Muslim Indonesians getting PR in 2 or 3 years only. Very corrupt and discriminatory country.

Yes they are and yes I've been told many times by them. I also know many Chinese (mostly younger) fighting for change. But it could very well be a hopeless fight.
Converting to Islam eh? That's risky..if they ever change their minds it's punishable by death, right?

Caucasians, if you are referring to the non-Arabic white people, would more quickly align with Chinese in any political way.
Good point!
