The male/female sex ratio is 2.2 for the total population and 2.75 for the 1565 age group. That's HIGH.

Demographics are equally interesting:

20% are UAE nationals or Emiratis.
23% of the population are non-Emirati Arabs and Iranians.
50% are from India.

Damn...are most of the other GULF countries like that as well?

It depends on how the ratio is determined. The vast majority of guest workers are men who are either single or left their families in their home country. The women guest workers seem to be mainly in some hospitality jobs, household servants, and nannying. The men occupy just about everything else. So if they're included you probably have a normal rate for Emiratis (and the wealthy foreigners who live in the UAE for the lifestyle or safety), but the overall rate is thrown way out of whack by the guest workers. Just looking at the demographics and the ratio that seems to be what is happening.

Most small Gulf states are mostly foreign-born, such as Kuwait and Qatar.

You've already explained the reason for it. 80% of the population has come there as foreign workers, and obvioiusly, male workers are a great deal more in demand then females. The ratio of Emiratis is about normal, but the foreign workers are nearly all male.

Yes, it appears high for us heterosexual men. I'm willing to bet the homosexuals over there are not complaining, even if its probably illegal. lol

I remember reading that the sex-segregation of some Arabic cultures makes homosexuality, albeit illegal, in some ways "easier" than fornication or adultery. Men wanting to spend alone time with men isn't thought of the same.

As for UAEs gender imbalance it's right that they have a large immigrant population. I seem to recall they loosened up rules on Christianity before some others in the Gulf did because they have so many Filipino, etc workers. Although you'd think some of these immigrants, particularly hotel workers and nurses I'd guess, would be women. I guess most aren't though as I suppose they're more finance, oil, construction, etc.

I've talk to some Arab women and all of them defend their life style and social norms.
At the end of the day, happiness usually depends on whether they can find a good man. It is true in all countries in the world. Many American women are single moms, or have had a divorce. I don't know if they are really happier for having more "choices".
