Catholic Christian Lowlanders in the Philippines
Here's just one of the folk dances

maliket-a-polka dance

Maliket in Pangasinan means happy therefore, happy polka. This is danced during fiestas in honor of the Santo Niño, patron saint of a barrio of Pangasinan. When the dance is per as a ballroom dance during fiestas or grand social affairs. The basic dance step of the polka is executed to a duple meter with a step-close-step pattern following the one-and-two rhythm. Other polka steps used in the dance are the heel-and-toe polka, the hop polka, the gallop, chasing steps, and the hop step. Every locality would have its own version, but the basic steps, the plain polka, and the hee-and-toe polka were always included.

Baguio City, Philippines
It was established by the Americans.

For me, definitely the Philippines is the most westernized country in Asia. We are talking about "westernized" here, not "modernized."

Not all in the West are modern.

Philippines is the most westernized based on the traditions also, traditions that have been embraced from almost 400 years ago up to now. The holidays they are spending there are the same as in the West. For example, months before Christmas and up to Christmas, it is already celebrated enormously and very visible to the eyes of the people. While Chinese new year days every February is not important in the Philippines and you will not feel it there (just like in the West.)

Christianity is immense and Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, etc are NOT popular there, just as what they are to the western countries also.

The food - Filipinos are fond of pastas, tomato sauce, they DISLIKE spicy foods. and noodles are very seldom eaten in the households. Filipinos love lots of meat, burgers, pizza, hotdogs, fastfoods, and their desserts are the same as to the Americans' and Europeans'.

In terms of the corporate world, in Philippines, bosses and executives there are not treated as kings. Their manners are just equal to their subordinates. Unlike to other Asian countries, bosses are bosses and are like kings, and should be called as "Boss" "Sir". Bosses in the Philippines are only called by their first names, just like in the States.

Architecture - architecture in the Philippines are very like in the Europe. You will see them not only in the churches, but also in the simple schools, small buildings, etc. Schools and universities in the Philippines are very much European.
If you go to the malls in the Philippines, you will see much more western foods than Asian foods.

Unless you are comparing the Philippines to Latin America, then I guess you have a point.

Japan is by far the most western country in Asia as far as politics go. It's a democracy with a (relatively) low level of corruption. Or perhaps India.

Democracy with the LDP running it for the majority of the past 50 years??

Japan and the rest of Asia really doesn't carry the same type of democracy in the West.
