Definitely not. There are so many Americans who start having sex in their early teens. Why do you think the teenage pregnancy rate is so high in the US? Yes, the Japanese are a little prude and snarky but at least they're not afraid to joke around and have a little fun. America is seen as very conservative, very uptight.

It was a sarcastic post. (I know it's hard to tell on this forum.)

An argument about which of the two nationalities is more likely to joke around and have a little fun seems pointless. Who could prove anything either way?
If you talk to Canadians, they don't see Americans as uptight at all. They see them as raucous and a bit wild.

The topic is moral superiority in any case, not who is more humorous or relaxed.

Maybe it doesn't help much but I have been to Japan once, for a week, and it was the best week of my life, better than the 20 years I have lived in the US. Maybe that's not saying much but the experience that came along it was the people who were kind and caring, unlike most Americans who go by "every man for himself"

Yes, perception. Perception is reality we sense but not actually experience. Who knows how much negative information is prefiltered? Selective reporting, retention etc...

No individual country can be a moral standard for the world. All have their bad: Japan's treatment of the native Ainu, the Yakuza, over sexualization of youth, etc) and good (behavioral standards, concepts of civility, respect, etc...
As a homogeneous and geographically isolated society for hundreds of years, it likely enables cohesiveness moreso than other countries.

Not really. I can tell you right now, most Americans do not have those views about Japan. He was just mocking religious people. You really should learn to tell the difference when someone is being a sarcastic a-hole and when someone is serious.

My problem is people like the OP that think Japan is "morally superior" to the U.S. and other countries because what it appeared to look like to the outside world regarding the Earthquake and so-called "kindness" the Japanese display. These people do not realize that there is such a thing as putting up a front. Japan has so much dirt underneath the clean shiny surface that it's not even funny.

On the other hand, Japan's behavior and imperialist ambitions during the early to middle 20th century show that the Japanese can be as ruthless as any nation if given the chance.

Given these contradictions, do you think that the Japanese are a greater moral standard for the world compared to the U.S., or not?
Compared to other developed countries the US has a high crime rate. You should also group countries like those in Scandinavia, Switzerland, Singapore and Hong Kong, although not technically a country, with Japan, if that's how you consider makes a country moral.

No, individual people are more moral than other people. Culture doesn't really cut to the heart of morality or what's right or wrong, IMO.

Well since the US pretty much owned Japan during WWII and now has a large influence on them, it's no surprise that they're doing what America should be doing: focusing on themselves.

Asian nations have always valued education, hard work, strong family ties, loyalty, and respect for elders (filial piety). Asian families often expect their children to be their retirement plan in return for them providing strong educational opportunities. Filial piety is at the core of Asian religions, such as Confucianism, Buddhism, and so on.

The Japanese, along with many Asian nations again, love their country. It's always been that way.

By today's standards, Japan is still very traditional, but highly modernized in many ways.

Morally superior to the US? I could agree. But it's very hard to say that one nation is better than another since, like you, anyone could name many contradictions.

Child porn is very legal and popular.. They have all types of sick top selling pornography such as beastiality and vomit and the most perverted things you can think of. People that constantly praise Japan really make me laugh because if you only knew how much dirt they cover up, it would make you sick. Also, about that earthquake thing? If you think the Japanese did that out of the love of their hearts, you are sadly mistaken. Japan actually has a system where when a natural disaster happens, if you bring back lost or stolen goods to the government, you are paid incentives. That's why it seemed like everything was so "orderly". And it pays off because it looks good on your country and people to the outside world media. If only the world media did it's research on the Japanese government, they would have known this. Now people are constantly comparing the Japanese to New Orleans. Which I'm not going to justify because what happened in New Orleans WAS wrong. However, there were ALOT of actual horror stories of people starving and not being able to get out of New Orleans to walk to the next town because the New Orleans police department REFUSED to let them go and actually beat and killed them when they tried to leave. There alot of sickening stories like that that pose the question, what would we do in a situation like that? So I have refused to have a judgement or opinion about that. I only know that raping, killing, & beating in any emergency is completely wrong and I will never justify it.
Japan may have a high suicide rate and sexual perversion, but at least they aren't shooting each other as much as they are on American streets.

The attitude towards suicide is possibly still different to the US.

I was watching this Japanese movie based on a dramatic teen dramatic novel...in many situations characters would be crushed if they believed their friend/lover was being disloyal to them or if they felt they were disloyal to another, and in one instance a girl attempted suicide just because the boy she liked was hanging out with her friend alone, and her friend lied to her about it.

Please do not speak of which you do not know.

Child porn is illegal when it features real children. The sale and distribution is also illegal. If people come across the porn that DEPICTS children then it is legal to hold currently. Japan is pretty low per capita in the rape category.

Stop bashing, just cause you want to bash.

It seems to be hard to find a world wide ranking, so I would like to know where you are getting your information to back up your claims.

The above link is not the clearest link but at least it holds some truth.
The below link can validate your claim it is legal to hold child porn in possession but makes the rest of your assumption false about it being completely legal.

Child pornography laws in Japan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, it was very orderly regarding the earthquake. In the US you can bring back lost goods as well, but people will fight you over those lost goods, incentive or not.

When I am in Japan you know what makes the headlines? Politics and the random person hit by a car. The worse thing I saw in April was a person who was bi-polar not taking meds sped through a busy street hitting about 11 people. That happened in Kyoto, not even happening in Tokyo, the largest city in the world. When I got back home in Columbus, there was 3 murders, a rape on campus and several other things I really do not remember. That happened in one evening.

Suicide is big in Japan. Most of the men take pride in caring for their families. When they can not they lose pride and off themselves. People with terminal disease do not want to be a drain on society so they off themselves. Also, as someone noted teens seem to like to off themselves when they are heartbroken. Unlike here teens off themselves because they were bullied by classmates.
