Hello,

I am considering going overseas to English. Japan is looking most promising in terms of money, safety, cleanliness being a more "honest" society, etc. But something tells me that I should consider Istanbul a bit further; however, I know that is really important to get with a more reputable school or risk consider not getting paid on time, etc. Going to Russia was on the mind for a while, but I got realistic quite quickly, even though I've been learning Russian for over a year (and love it, too!).

Any insights anyone can bring to the table that I may not be aware of (I've done a lot research). I would really appreciate it.

All I can say is that I know people who love Istanbul. Have you Googled "Teaching English in Istanbul"? Lots of info, variety of sources.
Keep working on your Russian. That could be a great option for the future.

Thank you for your post.

I speak French fluently after several years of hard work and dedication.

I am in love with the Russian language; I just cannot stop!

I do hear that Istanbul is lovely on so many accounts.

You hear so many positives and negatives on any location. The issue is figuring out what place best suits my personality; and really, you cannot know until you experience a place. It's all really a gamble, although you can rule out places if you know that personal safety is at stake, or that a country pays lows wages when you're after higher ones.

I've heard mostly positive.

I went to Istanbul back in 1997, and was quickly hired for a teaching position. I thought about it, and decided to give South America a shot instead.

That being said, I quite liked Istanbul, and mostly heard all good things from people who've taught there. Salaries are a bit better than teaching ESL in any continental EU country as well.

Thank you very much!

If I go to Japan, I will be considering Fukuoka, Kanazawa, Wakayama City or Sapporo.
