Been to Kuching about two years ago. Less Muslim attire than the peninsula, but definitely still there. More Chinese for a smaller city, but seems to me there are more Chinese in both KL and Penang than Kuching. Kind of sleepy and provincial and very green, with lots of mountains and rivers. What is very noticeable about the demographics of Kuching, it is very evident that the Indian presence is very small compared to the peninsula.

Provincial seems to be a theme here....

As always, I am always partly thinking of a potential place to 'retire' or eventually set down roots...and I just like Malaysia in general. Does Kuching have such a provincial feel that a person might feel bored there if they stayed there awhile? It does seem to be a bit more isolated, compared to Peninsular Malaysia.

Is Kuching walkable, or have enough to walk to? I mean, if someone were to live there? When I google map it, it seems it has its walkable areas, but much of it seems very car-oriented...without having visited there myself, I wonder if the walkable areas would quickly feel small in a short period of time?
