My guess is that in the coming years there are going to be lot of cross ethnic/cultural marriages due to the increase in immigrant population. I'm a naturalized citizen myself and personally, I do not have any issues with my boys getting married to someone from a different ethnic background. I'm curious to find out who they'll marry though. Well, I need to wait a long time for that since my boys are still young .
Here are my questions to parents and boys/girls.
As a parent, will you approve (if we've a choice)/disapprove of the marriage? Either ways, what are the reasons behind your approval/disapproval?
As a boy/girl, do you really care what ethnicity your spouse is?
I'm a white male open to dating women from all races and ethnicities. So many of the most attractive, intelligent and personable women that I meet are from races and nationalities different from my own. As a young guy interested in dating, this is perhaps the best part of living in a multicultural society.
No one except the Tea Partiers and a lot of old people really care about interracial marriage. Especially most younger people date interracially.
I agree. In the U.S., it's pretty much a non-issue especially among the younger generations. I believe the top 3 inter-racial marriages in the U.S. are between White Europeans and Native Americans/Japanese Americans/Filipino Americans.
I'm a white American male who primarily dates Asian/hapa women. It follows that my kids will most likely be a quarter to half Asian. I am totally cool with them dating whatever ethnicity or race that the right person for them happens to be from.
As I said to one of my (Asian male) friends, who asked me how I'd feel if my little sister started dating a black guy: I'd much, much rather her date a black guy who's good to her, has his act together, loves her, and respects her, than a guy who looked like us but was a manipulative loser.
