Basically most Philippines internet is 3G wifi service and you're speeds are throttled most times. It's like surfing the internet on a cell phone all day. It sucks and that's why it's cheap. I get 20+Mbps constant Internet speeds when I'm in my home country. Sorry, but if the Philippines wants to successfully compete with it's Asian neighbors it really needs to get it's Power Grid and Internet infrastructure upgraded.
It definitely depends on where you live. Although more expensive than what I have paid in other countries I have lived, I have 20 Mbps connection (fiber) in Angeles City, Philippines. It is pretty reliable. They have higher speeds available, but the 20 Mbps is good enough for now.

But at what cost for a 20 Mbps connection in Angeles City? More than I would care to pay for! Our PLDT 5 Mbps (not fiber) at P1,999 a month including land line (local calls within our area code) here in Sta Rosa, Laguna will just have to do and it does fine by me, for now anyways!

Is this guy another Philippines cheerleader? There was a dude by the name of Coach something that would tirelessly post stuff about the Philippines.

A lot of people know about the Philippines. It is not like you guys are something NEW. I never had any desire to go there because of the poverty, the street children, prostitution and other things that don't really excite me.

If you want more people to go to your country, you need to get it in order first. Trying to shamelessly promote by ignoring and downplaying your many problems is not the way to do it.

Living in SE Asia region, Frankly speaking, dozens other countries in Asia are better as tourist destinations.

Well, just don't seek out those types of areas! Every under developed Asian country has those types of living conditions centrally located near or in the cities, but outside of the cities is a different world, just have to go out and see for yourselves and not just read about them in travel brochures or read about just the negatives on the internet! Each and every country have their own positive sides too!

No offense huh, but you seem to act as if your country's problems are better than ours.

Yea, why worry about the things that can harm or kill you... Happens anywhere - just a little more often in the Philippines.

My Filipino ex-GF told me that even her own father once told her not to come home because it is too dangerous. This was shortly before he was killed.

The PI can be a beautiful place, with friendly people... and it certainly can use the benefit of tourism. But until the government does something more to protect tourist from crime and guerrillas, and their own women from being sexually abused and exploited, I wouldn't go either.

I actually misspoke about my 20 MB connection. What I have is the 10 MB connection. I pay 4100 pesos per month for it. Not sure which part of that is actually the internet portion because it is a package deal with my HD cable. Strangely enough, I actually pay less now than what I was paying before I upgraded to the fiber. When I had the 5MB internet and SD cable I was paying 4600 pesos per month. So I now pay 500 pesos less per month.

Don't have a land line phone. When I have lived places where I had a land line, I never used it. Heck, I wouldn't even answer the phone. I never give out a land line number, so the only people who would call on it would be someone trying to sell something, or someone who dialed the wrong number.

To add, I'm a Fil/Am grew up in California and worked for the U.S. government for 30 yrs and we immediately moved to the Philippines to retire! 17 yrs later we're still here and still enjoying our retirement lifestyle! We are living the "American Dream" here in the Philippines that most Filipinos and retirees from different countries would aspire to!
