^^ Umh, first let me clarify that Chavacano is not a dialect but a separate language of the Philippines. There are over 110 languages in the Philippines. When you say a dialect it is a variation of a mother language. There are 8 major languages in the country base on the number of speakers and these are Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilokano, Bikolano, Hiligaynon, Waray, Kapampangan, and Pangasinense. Although Chavacano is not widely spoken in the islands, it still is a language and not a dialect. These languages are not intelligible with one another that is why they are languages because they have different sentence structure, phonetics, grammar, etc. A dialect on the other hand is a variation of a certain language e.g. Cebuano is a language spoken in Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, Southern Leyte, Northern and Southern Mindanao. In these places you can hear variations of Cebuano like Boholano, Kagayanon, Kana, etc. and that is what you call dialects of Cebuano. Do not confuse Filipino as a language from the 8 major languages because Filipino as a language was just imposed to unite the multi-ethnic islands under one common language. Filipino is still 95% based in Tagalog.

Base on what I know and anybody can correct it, the reason why Spanish survived in Zamboanga more than any other places in the country because the Spaniards in Manila and neighboring Tagalog provinces during the Spanish-American War fled to Mindanao specifically Zamboanga to escape war. Mindanao was not really a Spanish stronghold unlike Luzon and the Visayas during the Spanish colonial period because the Moros (Muslim) dominate most of the island. It was only in the city of Zamboanga that it survived and flourished but the province to which the city belongs are mostly Cebuano speakers. That is why Chavacano is a mixture of Spanish and Malayo specifically Tagalog and Cebuano.

Anyways, Porque is already famous in the Philippines, even Tagalog as a version of it. Curious if a Spaniard could somehow comprehend Chavacano, I let my Spanish friend listened to the song. He said, he could not understand most of the song lyrics, he felt that Chavacano was a corrupted form of Spanish but amidst that, he was really fascinated about Chavacano though.

No tu distorba
Y no atraka kay baka palmadia yo contigo
Nunca accepta

Ooohh..
Porque contigo yo ya escuji?
Ahora mi corazon ta supri…

Porque (Spanish translation)

Estoy sola en el cuarto
No puedo dormir
Estoy pensando en
El dolor que yo senti

¿Por qué yo te amé?
Quien desapareció como una pompa.
¿Por qué yo te escogí?
Ahora mi corazon sufre.

Lo que deseo es muy simple.
Que sientas lo que yo sentí.
Pido un milagro que el tiempo atrase.
Que sea justo el mal.

En mis rezos, yo pido
Que yo te olvide por siempre.
Te di el todo
Ahora ya arrepiento

Me duele muchisimo.
Ya no quiero vivir.
¿Por qué yo te amé?
Que desapereció como una pompa.

¿Por qué yo te amé?
Quien desapareció como una pompa.
¿Por qué yo te escogí?
Ahora mi corazon sufre.

Lo que deseo es muy simple.
Que sientas lo que yo sentí.
Pido un milagro que el tiempo atrase.
Que sea justo el mal.

En mis rezos, yo pido
Que yo te olvide por siempre.
No me estorbes ni me aserques.
Podria darte una bofetada.

Nunca te aceptaré.
Si regresas a mi
Por el dolor que yo sentí.
¿Por qué yo te escogí?

Ahora mi corazon sufre.
Lo que deseo es muy simple.
Que sientas lo que yo sentí.
¿Por qué yo te escogí?

Ahora mi corazon sufre.

^ ok, but why aren't the people being interviewed speaking Chavacano. They're speaking Tagalog and English. It makes it seem like only this news program uses Chavacano, but regular people do not

^^ Well, its because Tagalog is the language Filipinos of different ethnicity can speak to one another. Mindanao was once considered the country's promise land because of its vast area and rich natural resources but the problem was that the island was sparsely populated during the early periods of Philippine independence, that is why government enticed many Filipinos from other parts of the country particularly from Luzon and the Visayas to settle and do business in Mindanao. Thus, most of the people in Mindanao today are migrants from different parts of the country. That is why in Zamboanga, apart from Chavacano used by native Zamboanguenos, you will definitely hear Filipino (Tagalog) and to some extent English because both languages are the country's common languages. Not everyone can speak Chavacano, even me I do not speak Chavacano because I am Cebuano so in order for me to understand a Chavacano, I have to use Filipino (Tagalog) and English to communicate with native Zamboanguenos.

They try to speak Tagalog so they can be understood. When ABS CBN interviews them or shows something sbout Zamboanga, the ABS CBN reporters from Manila always say " Gracias " at the end.
My neighbours speak Chavacano that's why I know that Zamboanguenos really speak it.

They have more Spanish words than Filipino. In the song, it's like there are only 8 words in Filipino. It really is a Spanish creole.

Reminds me of Galician language, a mix of Spanish and Portuguese.
