Probably it's how the poll has been worded, and I voted Seoul based on the aspects you listed and overall a better city to live. I would definitely recommend Beijing for a tourist visit over Seoul, despite the pollution, the traffic, etc.

True. If someone was coming from North America or Australia...and actually which one to visit...if they'd never been to Asia before. I'd definitely say BEIJING without a doubt.

That being said, for me, I'd choose Seoul over Beijing, for me.

If Tokyo comes into this poll, it pretty much wins hands down.

Seoul to me, has just more of the "it" factor. Also, the fact Beijing has less freedom, China and most of the West do not get a long and the smog make it less attractive.

I'd say Seoul, feels much more developed and modern to me. Last time I was in Beijing though, was 2004, so a lot may have changed.

Beijing is the more interesting and vibrant city, but I would prefer not to live in either long term.

Certainly did! I was in Beijing on May 2012, just last year. Beijing felt even bigger than NYC and much more cosmopolitan than Seoul. I was also lucky to see the very clear blue skies that time in Beijing when there was virtually no yellow sand floating around. I think Beijing would be more exciting if you're a tourist.

Seoul is boring to death.
Beijing is much more international.

Both cities are probably a lot more exciting than 20 years ago, although I just feel Beijing has more of interest to me. Seoul is too much about technology.etc.
