Jakarta vs Manila

I think Jakarta is better than Manila, the buildings is much more beautiful in terms of architecture and has a unique flavor, the only thing Manila have is its cluster of buildings but not architecturally interesting.. in terms of environment both are dirty, poverty is bad but worse in Manila (the slums area are bigger and its not safer to carry gadgets there) also Jakarta is a wealthier city than of Manila, but overall the score they're the same in terms of nightlife, traffic (same), natural beauty etc (safari park vs mountain?) as for history, you go to Manila for Spanish (Intramuros) and Jakarta for Dutch colonial histories (Kota Tua or Old Town Batavia) but the Indonesian appear to have much more interesting older history and heritage than Philippines because Ph only exist after colonial era... but language term English is well-spoken in Ph not in Indonesia you may have to learn few words there... shopping? i don't know both have gigantic glittering malls everywhere but i like the malls in Jakarta they're pretty...

city data:
Both Jakarta and Manila are rising giants in South East Asia, Jakarta is headquarter of ASEAN secretariat while Manila is Asian Bank Headquarter

Jakarta looks nice. I like the rotunda designed like a giant watch
Their roads actually look much nicer because it's less messy unlike the Philippines that have a lot of jeepneys. If Philippines will just use buses instead, it will be much cleaner.
And they have the 2nd biggest retail store in the world French owned Carrefour ? Manila doesn't have it yet.

So weird to hear about Jakarta having all the shopping/malls, western restaurants.
I grew up there (76-85) and we didn't even have a grocery store.

yes Carefour are very dominant in Indonesia, probably second to the main local supermarkets like Hypermarts. the French luxury department store Gallerie Lafayette is also there in Jakarta im not sure about Manila but i think the SM are very dominant there

ohh but in reality the road in Jakarta is not actually that good, especially when it comes to traffic... complete mess i tell you.... and its only clean because that's the city centre.... but in terms of hygiene, Indonesians are quiet clean

the city is booming very fast in the 80s to today... its no longer the big village you used to know malls, nightclubs, cafes, offices, and skycrappers everywhere... even the property and luxury market of Asia today are experiencing its fastest growth in Indonesia so the skyline will improve in the next few years

you should try going to Jakarta, well the traffic is still horrible but they have car free day twice a month on the weekend its nice to roam around the city centre at those days
