The data also shows how dependent The Philippines to its capital region. By far has lower National GDP than Indonesia, but its capital gets higher GDP than Jakarta (?). Yeah, just hope the money will be more evenly distributed in the future.
Metro Manila is equivalent to the city of Jakarta. They are around the same population and land area. If you compare just the city of Manila to the city of Jakarta, then you are comparing a city of 1 million to a city of 10 million. Metro Manila is made up of 17 cities, but they are more like districts rather than cities. Nobody thinks of Metro Manila as the city of Manila + 16 suburbs. It's not like that at all.

City is city, metro is metro, regardless the size of population and economy. Do you think how many people live in city like KL?

Metro Manila is one unit- the National Capital Region. The whole thing is the capital of the Philippines. Don't let the name "metro" fool you into thinking that it's a main city and a bunch of suburbs. It's not like that at all. If there are suburbs of Manila, they are outside of Metro Manila- in the surrounding provinces.

You're saying that it's apples to oranges to compare Metro Manila to Jakarta. How so??

Metro Manila: Land Area- 638.6 kmē- Population- 11,855,975 (2010)
Jakarta: Land Area- 662 kmē- Population- 9,588,198 (2010)

So they're not comparable at all? You think this is better?..

Manila (city)- Land Area- 38.55 km2- Population- 1,652,171
Jakarta: Land Area- 662 kmē- Population- 9,588,198

So when we talk about Manila, we can only talk about the unimportant old city by the bay? That's great...

Yeah, if we're only allowed to talk about cities vs. cities, then we should talk about the most important city in each country. So Jakarta vs Makati!

If you said MetroManila was one unseparated city bla bla bla .... I would probably accept that.

But making size of population and total area as benchmark to "fairly" compare one city and another is just ridiculous. How many cities in this whole world do you think could pass such criteria of having 10 mil pop, 600km total area etc etc? Yet city like KL despite having smaller pop than Manila, yes Manila not MetroManila, is presented as KL, not Klang Valley.

The Supreme Court is located in Manila. The Senate is in Pasay. The House of Representatives is in Quezon City. All of Metro Manila is the National Capital Region. Equivalent to D.C. in the US or D.F. in Mexico.

I never thought that Metro Manila's HDI is way above Jakarta. And I see it as a disadvantage for PH in general. It only shows how focused the economy and welfare in Manila than other places.

Philippines need to decentralized, 60% of the entire economy is at GMA (Greater Manila Area).

Yes its quiet bad in the Philippines when it comes to development outside capital since the NCR generates considerebly large amount of the total share of GDP of Philippines counting 36.7% of the total GDP output, Indonesia also used to be similar.. but atleast the GDP shares of the capital has been reduced to just 20% and development outside of Java can be seen...

Well, 12% of the population of the Philippines is in NCR. 5% of Indonesia is in Jakarta. So it looks like Jakarta's share is more unjustified than Manila's share
