I'm surprised Thai has a few the same as Mandarin. I expected Vietnamese to share more with Chinese, as well as Korean. The word for '3' seems fairly common among the major languages even across families.
Interesting. I know Samoan is Austronesian, but it's Polynesian, I didn't think they were all that close.
yeah linguists say that Austronesian is one of the more close-knit language families. It's weird because Filipino numbers look as close to Samoan numbers as they do to Bahasa Indonesian/Malaysian and Javanese

Vietnamese seem to close to Chinese just only culturally. By the way when it comes to language or genetic comparison Thai seem to share a lot with Chinese for some reason.
They are discussing about Thai or Vietnamese who is closer to Chinese in this forum.

Malagasy shares linguistic similarities with a Bornean language (from the Barito region, Indonesian Borneo).
