I've seen Vietnamese this dark, and some who look like this, almost all in the South, which was Khmer territory. It's still a rather atypical look for Vietnamese, I'd think of it as mostly Khmer, lowland Lao/Isan.
You're right, Cambodians look different from Austronesians, although they could be confused by some.
Khmer nothing related to lowland lao/isan . your tanned skin people look your own feature.
All these confusion about the origin of thai, vietnamese, indonesia, malaysian started when they all thought and taught that they are originated from southern china or north to south migration
But modern genetic studies and researches have shown that the migration route is actually from south to the north.
All of the East Asian: Chinese, Japanese and Korean has an extreme Southeast Asian Genes in them, especially the male while majority of the female's genes were from north...while there are no significant northern genes in southeast asian population.
Take for example the chinese male genes or Y-DNA, they are 100% Southeast asia origin: austronesian + dai while the chinese female genes or mTDNA are 50% from north and 50% from southeast asia
So from genetic perspective
the southeast asian males, including dai and austronesian has spread their genes from madagascar to mainland asia to southern china, and in southern china they met the female from north, like siberia, etc. they raped and married these females and reproduce the CHINESE, and then this Hybrid of southeast asian males and north east asian females, move further north and some goes back to SOUTHEAST ASIA

Maybe the initial spread, before northern mongoloid features developed, but if were talking the last dew thousand years, people's from central and northern china moved south displacing and mixing with the natives, mostly y dna. Prior to this even most of sea was negrito. It's obvious Vietnamese and Thai sew fairly similar to southern Chinese.
That's true, seems like the situation is similar with Indonesia. None of these people had Chinese surnames, by the way.
LOL Indonesian Facebook users comprise both native Indonesians and Chinese Indonesians.
