Kongar-ol Ondar, who was instrumental in reviving the nearly lost art of harmonic singing ("throat singing") in the Tuvan Republic (Russian Federation), passed away this weekend at 51. Featured in the film, "Ghenghis Blues", Ondar gave many concerts in the US and performed in Japan. He was given nearly a full-page obituary today in the NY Times.
