To me Tibetans usually just look like Central or Western Han, although they themselves are quite diverse. Some of them look Mongolian too.

^ yes that's the popular 'kawaii' look in Japan. Her eyes are large for a Japanese person, but by no means that rare. There's something just distinctly Japanese looking about her, but it quite subtle. I mean she could pass as Chinese but i wonder if anyone who is Chinese could look 100% like her (well obviously not 100% literally like an identical twin, but you know what I mean).

My grandfather was unusual too. He was about 6 foot tall (definitely exceptional for a Singaporean of his generation), had a long face, fairly European features...he looked a bit like your grandfather but less oriental.

maybe facial shape....she looks more chinese in this pic

Japanese are said to have narrower faces...I'd say this is somewhat true actually, although some have broadish faces. Their faces tend to be more heart-shaped rather than the round shape of a lot of Chinese and SE Asians.
