Hey! Sorry, Im new here and this is totally awkward because I can't use this properly.. I just found this web site and decided to come ask here and lol, sorry, my english fails. I hope somebody understands and answers thanks

So, I have friends from Burma or Myanmar (or what is it?!) and they are karen people.. I don't dare to ask this. So why do they put some light/white/light beige paint to their faces? Like on cheecks and forehead?
What's the meaning?? I tried to google this but i couldn't. I have seen some teenagers do that and also little childs. I shame to ask this my friends but maybe I have to if nobody knows thanks

Perhaps this link will help you. Thanaka - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My understanding after quickly reading this site is that the custom is not specifically a Karen one, but is practiced more widely in Burma than just among the Karen people. Take a look.
