It's not, Hermosa. As was pointed out before, there is no mass rush to get plastic surgery done in South Korea. It's media exaggeration. This is pretty much limited to Seoul, and among the better to do families who can actually afford it. The Korean girl that works in the bakery, grocery store, or average university girl are not getting plastic surgery done.

So you are saying that one in five Korean women in Seoul are 'wealthy'. Whatever. And estimates of women who actually do get surgery ranges up to 50%. Many don't report it. The most popular procedures are not that expensive in any case, so in fact, cosmetic surgery is affordable for all but the dregs of society, which is why Korean women, by far, lead the world per capita in getting plastic surgery.

If you took the time to do a search, and not cherrypick facts, you can find that the most common number is up to 20%, with those numbers being highly concentrated in Seoul, not around the country. So, no, half of Korean women have not gotten plastic surgery done.

Most Japanese still regard South Korea being generally inferior to Japan. South Korea has not surpassed Japan yet. There are many Koreans living in Japan for generations and are still discriminated greatly. The mentality of the Japanese have to be understood, they are very proud of their country and people, regarding themselves as the best of asia and look down on most countries in the world except US, Canada and Western Europe.

Maybe Japanese women nowadays appreciate more of other cultures than in the past, including those countries poorer than Japan. It is however not realistic as a Japanese-Korean couple relation still attract much criticisms in both counties. Korea & Japan are not melting pots countries. Interracial dating attitude is not the same as in the US.

South Korea had transformed SIGNIFICANTLY from a developing country (and military dictatorship) to a developed democratic country.

It now has one of the highest standards of living in Asia, so i don't see why Japanese women wouldn't have changed their impression of South Korea and even be attracted to their men for that matter.

Asian-American women are usually less materialistic than fresh Asians coming off the boats. Asian men back in Asia are better choice than white men for women who want a materialistic lifestyle. Asian men think it is the duty of men to provide for the women.

For example most white guys expect sex after just two dates or one paid dinner. They expect Asian women to treat them like royalty when in reality most Asian women are very good at acting to get the interest of the white guys.

There are relatively few Japanese women going to Korea for plastic surgeries. Most "patients" are from South Korea or developing asian countries.

Well Seoul is the biggest city in Korea, other cities in Korea are relatively not important.

S Korea is well-known than other countries for this industry anyway.

Huh? I find first generation asians to be far more traditional then westernised, depending on where they are from. My experience is the opposite that often asian american wahines are westernised and unfortunately one bad trait of capitalism is greed and more materialistic.

You're right that Zainichi Koreans are still discriminated against in Japan (like not being granted citizenship and stuff). But it is the political institution in Japan that create such policies, and that does not mean that the citizens especially Japanese women are necessarily racist towards Koreans as well.

The younger Japanese generation today who is so distanced from Japan's imperialist past, are rather open-minded towards their Asian neighbours and are mainly focused on the present including the popularity of Korean pop culture.

If they ever have a poor impression of South Korea, that's all thanks to situations like anti-Japanese demonstrations and nationalism in South Korean education system.

Check this video out on anti-Japanese education in South Korea:
