Is it normal for Africans to be driven around in a buggy until the age of 4?

was about to say the exact same thing, beat me to it. west africans in east asia/southeast are best avoided. at least 50% are involved in some sort of criminal activity - and not even the good kind. i wont deal with them.

last time i was in guangzhou i remember being surprised by the number of blacks i saw. have heard the population is growing a lot in the last 5 years. maybe many of them are legit there, i don't have any experience with them. but in other parts of asia they are BAD NEWS.

Not sure if they are from the same part of Africa, but I wouldn't be surprised. I've noticed that in Spain, there were some guys selling fake(?) high end hand bags on the street. They usually have chains tied to these bags and their own wrist for a quick get away if the authorities arrived. There was another guy selling some shoes too. During one night at Las Ramblas(Barcelona), the police were roaming around nearby and these guys just packed up their handbags with one flick of the wrist and walked away.

I've noticed that in HK too while staying at ChungKing Mansions...just looked a little shady to me.

In Thailand, Japan, too, doesn't matter where. Most of those guys are in the country illegally and up to no good.

Disappointed to hear about racial tensions, but not too surprising. Pretty different culture. Will be interesting to see if a community of genuine African Chinese will emerge. I.e. Africans born in China, who speak fluent Chinese, who are culturally and by nationality Chinese.

I wonder if that's even possible in China?

In South Korea and Japan, it really isn't. You'd never get the Japanese or Korean passport, nationality, or citizenship. You'd be carrying the nationality/passport of your ancestors and essentially be renewing some visa of some kind just to be granted the ability to stay there.

In China it is pretty much the same. Foreign nationals can never become Chinese citizens unless they have Chinese ancestry.

However, if Africans marry Chinese, their children can certainly be Chinese citizens, if they choose that way.

Not true. How Foreigners can Become Chinese Citizens:

Article 7 of the Nationality Law states that foreigners who will abide by the Chinese Constitution and laws can apply to be naturalized as Chinese citizens if they meet one of the following conditions:

1. They have close relatives who are Chinese nationals.

2. They have settled in China

3. They have other legitimate reasons.

In China, local Public Security Bureaus will accept applications for citizenship. If applicants are abroad, citizenship applications are handled at Chinese embassies and consular offices. After they are submitted, the Ministry of Public Security will examine and approve or dismiss applications. If approved, it will issue a certificate of citizenship.

There are other more specific rules for the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions.
