There are at least 20,000 Africans, mostly from West African nations such as Nigeria, Ghana and Mali, living legally in Guangzhou, a city of about 12 million. The number could be as high as 150,000 if you include the many illegals and those temporarily in the city chasing business opportunities.

I heard that as well recently, and I think it was from city-data. Very interesting.

It seems like mostly African MEN though? Just based on the photos....

When I visited Dubai, they have a large Indian population in Dubai, but they are predominately Indian males.

Most are traders. Women in those countries probably do not work as much, and it's hard for them to obtain a long-term visa.

It is always like that for Indians... Of course most women don't work right ? So Indian women do not go to other countries to work. In Portugal, the Indians there are all men too .

In China over 70% women have a full time job. Basically every woman I know has a job.
I used to think it is normal, until I lived in other countries.

In the Philippines, it is getting common too but there are still some who stop working when they get married. But I think in India, most women still do not work. When did women in China start working ? In the Philippines maybe in the 70's.

In China, it has been common since the communist revolution, I guess.
Chairman Mao said "women can hold half of the sky" and there was a movement to put women in work force.
In addition, in old days wages in China were very low and a husband alone can hardly support a family.

Before the revolution, however, few women went out to work. My grandmother quit job after having too many children.
