In Japan/Korea/China, you have a ton to overcome from unfamiliar root words, and different writing systems. When I was in South America, I could just passively read anything and everything, and make out the meanings of much of the words.
The learning curve is very steep.

It is definitely true that East Asian languages are hard for westerners. However, the East Asians who live in the west usually can speak some simple English (or whatever language) at least. Westerners should try doing the same.

Well English is an easy language to learn. Plus, there are movies and songs that can really help you.

English is supposed to be one of the hardest to learn due to the amount of words we have than mean the same or similar.

Maybe for you... But I find English easy, other languages are so hard especially Romance languages because the grammar is hard " there is a gender for everything even non living things and the sentence will have to depend on the gender plus the plurals and all and English doesnt have that. My husband who is not a native English speaker speaks English well too and finds it easier too even though he can speak French and Spanish being a Portuguese himself... Plus the presence of American and English movies, tv shows and songs... No more reason for it to be hard.
