To those people who wants to say something good and nice about this country.. or had good and bad experience about the culture, the people or other things... please do send your sentiments and good experiences.
Our family lived in the Philippines for 8 years. We lived on Luzon in Nueva Vizcaya province and 2 of our 3 children were born in the country. We made so many good friends there that for my husband's 40th birthday, we invited 40 of our Filipino friends to celebrate. We ate fabulous Filipino food and had a true birthday "bash".
Our children called themselves Filipinos (even though they were American) and we all immersed ourselves in the culture.
To this day, we eat an inordinate amount of rice compared to other people and the painting of old city Manila which adorns our sala (living room) wall is a constant reminder of some wonderful years spent in that beautiful country.
When I was stationed in Korea, I deployed to Clark Air Base several times. Really enjoyed my time in the P.I. Met a nice girl that worked outside the base and she toured me around the country a bit. Saw the abject poverty of Manila right around the corner from Makati Commercial Center; WHAT a contrast. But I still loved meeting the friendly people and seeing what I did, although I regret not getting up to Baugio...
I've been to the PI 18 times. I stopped in Cebu and started jumping the fast cats around the Visayas. I went all through Mindanau down into the Jolo Islands where its rumored Osama hides there. I went upinto Banawau (sp). Everyone was friendly. I gave a guy $5.00 and he practically cried.
I lived around Iloilo for a while, and visited other places. I can speak a little bit of Tagalog (that's what I studied, even though Iloilo is an Ilonggo-speaking city). I go back whenever I can. I'm glad they finally replaced Mandurriao airport with a larger one. Napakamaganda ang Pilipinas!
I haven't been there. A lot of people from the Philippines live in my city and neighborhood, and I have nothing but good experiences. Very friendly and helpful. I have some good friends from there.
Here in the Emirates there are TONS of people from the Phillipines and our family has had two maids from there. They seem like really nice people from the friends I've had and I can't wait to get a chance to take a holiday there.
