I have been to Tokyo once before but my company paid for Everything. I'm thinking about going back for easier this time and everything will be out of pocket. Here are my estimate in dollars.....

New York to Tokyo airline ticket = 2,000
Hotel for 6 nights = 1,200
Subway pass/food/souvenirs/cabs = 800

Total = 4,000

Sounds right.

Actually I've seen all kinds of budgets. You can also find flights for much less, but during offseason. There are also a ton of hostels here, where you can stay in a room for around $15/night.

On the other hand, it's also easy to spend way more as well. Just depends on the person. But, yours is a good budget to sufficiently see Tokyo, especially during the high-season time.

I think you coulda be underestimating food. Also, what about entertainment?

Always budget more than you would use, there are always unexpected expenses that will come up.

No.

Ticket to Tokyo I never ay more than 1300 round trip. I don't disagree with the rest. He could find cheaper hotel, but those sell quick.

I would put food, subway, etc... At 1200, but I love japanese food and eat a ton while there.

Ticket = 1500 or so at most
Hotel = 1200 - 3000
local transportation = 200
food = 800

so yes 4k on the low side and 6k on the higher side.

Go get a Hostel. You'd be crazy to pend 1200 on a Hotel for 6 night... wtf? 25*6=150 ( just checked the price).
I could do 6 nights in Tokyo for 2k easily. Especially since the plane ticket isn't 2k. Unless you go with a pricier airline. BUt then you don't care about the price anyway.
