It's so miserable to be in these Islamic countries. Islam is out of place in the 21 at century.

Don't believe the media hype. Indonesia has always had a 'don't ask - don't tell' policy when it comes to gay. I lived there for a number of years, and while I'm not gay, I've had quite a few gay friends there who seemed to be doing fine, some of them living together with their gay partners happily.

Heck, they even had a special square in Jakarta (probably still do) for gay and transgender prostitures to hang out so customers of similar orientation knew where to go. This on top of other red district locations scattered all over the city that everyone knew about. And prostitution is supposedly illegal in Indonesia.

As long as they didn't flaunt their lifestyle in your face, nobody cared.

yes, If you actually read the article, they cite the LGBT tights groups as "modern warfare," and it also started about the time the pimple on gay marriage in the US was coming to a head. But, you are correct, it appears, the don't ask; don't tell seemed to be quid pro quo for decades.

Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan and the Maldives are not Islamic countries?

Yeah, these Islamic scholars are about as legitimate and widely regarded in Indonesia as the nutjobs at Westboro Baptist Church in the US.

I also would take any Indonesian 'news' from an Aussie source with a grain of salt, given the two countries' love-hate relationship.

Yup, it's the 7th century in slo-mo. These folks are ill suited for the 21st century. I feel sad for the poor kids born to these people. What a miserable, hate filled way to live.
