To answer the OP's question though, my 2 favorites are Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Every major city will have tall buildings, so what separates a great skyline from the merely good are distinctive, one-of-a-kind buildings. Singapore has the Marina Bay Sands and Kuala Lumpur has the Petronas Towers, both of which look good both during the day and at night.

That's very true. Bangkok also has some distinctive, one-on-a-kind buildings as well, such as the majestic Elephant Tower and the futuristic Robot Building. Day or night, once you've seen them, they're pretty hard to forget.

I'd say for the other cities:

Bangkok - Robot Building
Hong Kong - Bank of China Building
Tokyo - Tokyo Tower/Tokyo Skytree
Taipei - Taipei 101
Shanghai - Pearl Oriental TV Tower
