Well, to most people this just seems unfathomable South Korea and North Korea used to be the exact country for a long time in historic times, and as recently in the 1940s/1950s.

South Korea is more progressive, democratic, more relative social freedom, increasing prominence in economic wealth, more religious/spiritual, and more of an attractive tourism destination compared to the opposite North Korea.

North Korea compared to South Korea is very oppressive, conservative or not democratic, lack of any freedom, secular/atheist, very poor, and almost nobody in this entire world wants to visit over there. People in North Korea in terms of national character, temperament, and personality definitely became very different compared to South Korea.

The country of South Korea is respected, and loved much more than the hated North Korea. Those countries have extreme conflict in recent times, and might never reconcile together with peaceful relations in the future.

This is one specific map showing another difference between South Korea vs. North Korea in terms of modern technological infrastructure and development based on Satellite early night time images:

Global Peace Index: South Korea ranks well in this map while it is the opposite with North Korea this shows in a close up image:

In South Korea, significant information is available from government/political system while in North Korea it is scant to no information, very private and oppressive government:

Well, this map is just funny and random about South Korea vs. North Korea, almost like a Pokemon video game:

None of this is a surprise. And I think most people hate NK's 'government' but feel mostly pity for it's people.

Apparently the linguistics between the two is slightly changing as well (but obviously not enough to cause a divergence in the Korean language...for now)

What is it about North Koreans that keeps them from rising up and overthrowing that oppressive regime? Even the Arabs had their Arab Spring.

Fear, brainwashing, and an all powerful state apparatus.

NK is another level of repression. You could ask that about any other dictatorship. With NK it's a whole new level of brainwashing too.

Well, not every topic has to show a complete surprise.

This extreme discrepancy between South Korea and North Korea is fascinating, and to notice all of the specific extremes of differences, including in visual maps, and worthy of talking about this in a topic.

It is almost unbelievable they were the same exact country around 50 years ago, and used to be the same ethnicity, and have the same language.

They have too much obedience to their government, and are too afraid to show any rebellious actions anytime soon.

Yeah, there is too much monopolized dominance of the government/political system, average citizens too discouraged, and don’t realize it’s worth the risk, and process to show active condemnation to the government over there.

They could always try out illegal immigration and move into South Korea, the much more wealthy, modern, progressive, democratic, religious/spiritual, and attractive pleasant destination compared to NK.
