I know Japan has a huge amount of it in anime, manga, and writing. What about in other cultures of Asia? Are there any notable works you'd point to? I would hope with the expansion of space exploration programs in parts of Asia, there'd be a growing interest in imagining what the future may be like from new and different perspectives.

I think Titan is a great scifi series.

I don't know if that's really scifi though. It seems to be much more in the fantasy realm. Although there is some great scifi anime (Akira, Ghost in the Shell, etc.). I just wish fewer of them would try to punch in a teenage love triangle in them.

I know of some, but it's pretty light overall. I think that's kind of a problem overall. Science fiction often tries to imagine a future, sometimes dystopian, sometimes not, but it projects. It's compelling in that way, but it seems weird how little attention it gets in the region.

Not sure about sci fi. South Korea has done some fantasy stuff. Most wu xia would fall somewhere in fantasy.

Scifi often combines genres like suspense, thriller, fantasy and horror in addition to the traditional science fiction.

I still highly recommend checking out Titan.

In China I've seen it in some Hong Kong action films but it's almost more steam punk. A mash of past and present. The Heroic Trio, for whatever reason, comes to mind. There are some Korean films closer to the HK mold. There are some legit, full on sci fi films, in Japan.

I think we're talking about the same things when I say the steam punk esque mash up. It's typically Wu Xia films with futuristic and classic elements.
