Part of the problem is the Chinese rivers have their source in Tibetan mountains. If Tibet is ever free from China they could cut of china's water supply.
Short Answer: No.
China won't allow it. They are focused on reclaiming all land lost to them as a result of the deterioration of the Qing Dynasty and the early Republic. Next they would focus on reclaiming the maximum territory that was once China.
No way China will allow loss of what they have deemed "their territory." It is the one topic that all Chinese seem to agree on.
What's there to be bitter about? I got clean water from the tap, a healthy food supply, and I can own property.
If Red China is so great, and you hold a PRC passport, and will always be chinese, then go back.
China is the Han's country. It has been since the Han dynatsy! Everyone else is considered a barbarian. Uighers certainly don't want to be apart of the PRC and their ambushing your security forces with only knives! Tibetans want fight back because its not in their nature.
The UK only has 65 million. What's you're point? PRC is projected have population demographic problems as well because of the one child policy.
You should be glad the Americans keep a leash on Japan. The last time they weren't, the rape of nanking happened. It took 2 atomic bombs to make them submit. They would probably do it again and the PLA is provoking them. You don't poke a tiger in the eye.
If westerners are so dumb, why do you live in a western country? Why don't you go back to the PRC since its so awesome?
You sounds like a big hypocrite. Why should China abandon Tibet and Xingjing, while all other countries have done the same thing? Check out USA and Russia. How much lands they have taken from the natives or other nations? China probably will be happy if Siberia return to China. Germany probably will break up into many nations if their own ethnic groups are allowed to reclaim their lands back. Japan too and so all other nations. Even in your own country, it will probably break up into thousands of nations and states too. Whose ethnic groups haven't been one time or other forced upon to join with more powerful groups? It sounds you are happy if the world break into millions or more nations, or more precisely go back to tribal nations?

I actually don't want them to abandon Xingjing. Jihadis are uncontrollable. Communists are the only ones that have successfully neutered jihadists in the past.

They tried. It didn't work it out. Still here and you're probably living in it. Be grateful they didn't succeed.

Depends on the nation, the ideology, and how friendly the government is.
I don't think Tibetans should get Tibet back. There were horrific human rights abuses under the theocracy. Some of these continue in the communities in exile. People need to really research Tibetan life and the nature of Tibetan Buddhist practices before they get starry-eyed about some mythical Shangri-la.

The West tends to get all mitsy-eyed for the underdog, for a variety of reasons... but the "underdog" is not always in the right. Look at the Palestinians... if they got the "freedom" they want, they'd institute a theocracy that would subjugate women and religious minorities, and then the very people who'd been supporting them for decades would hate them for being oppressors - which is exactly what happened with Israel itself.

Unfortunately Tibet isn't doing any better under PRC's regime.

Really? Why are you making stories just to suit your anti-China agenda? Let me educate you folks here.

Class Society in Old Tibet Tibet was a feudal society before the revolutionary changes that started in 1949. There were two main classes: the serfs and the aristocratic serf owners. The people lived like serfs in Europe's "Dark Ages," or like African slaves and sharecroppers of the U.S. South.
Tibetan serfs scratched barley harvest from the hard earth with wooden plows and sickles. Goats, sheep and yaks were raised for milk, butter, cheese and meat. The aristocratic and monastery masters owned the people, the land and most of the animals. They forced the serfs to hand over most grain and demanded all kinds of forced labor (called ulag). Among the serfs, both men and women participated in hard labor, including ulag. The scattered nomadic peoples of Tibet's barren western highlands were also owned by lords and lamas. The Dalai Lama's older brother Thubten Jigme Norbu claims that in the lamaist social order, "There is no class system and the mobility from class to class makes any class prejudice impossible." But the whole existence of this religious order was based on a rigid and brutal class system
Serfs were treated like despised "inferiors"*the way Black people were treated in the Jim Crow South. Serfs could not use the same seats, vocabulary or eating utensils as serf owners. Even touching one of the master's belongings could be punished by whipping. The masters and serfs were so distant from each other that in much of Tibet they spoke different languages.
t was the custom for a serf to kneel on all fours so his master could step on his back to mount a horse. Tibet scholar A. Tom Grunfeld describes how one ruling class girl routinely had servants carry her up and down stairs just because she was lazy. Masters often rode on their serfs' backs across streams. The only thing worse than a serf in Tibet was a "chattel slave," who had no right to even grow a few crops for themselves. These slaves were often starved, beaten and worked to death. A master could turn a serf into a slave any time he wanted. Children were routinely bought and sold in Tibet's capital, Lhasa. About 5 percent of the Tibetan people were counted as chattel slaves. And at least another 10 percent were poor monks who were really "slaves in robes."The lamaist system tried to prevent any escape. Runaway slaves couldn't just set up free farms in the vast empty lands. Former serfs explained to revolutionary writer Anna Louise Strong that before liberation, "You could not live in Tibet without a master. Anyone might pick you up as an outlaw unless you had a legal owner."
And no, it is not some communist propaganda from the PRC government.
Saying the Tibetans have no improvement in life under the PRC is like saying the black Americans live exactly the same life as before abolishment of slavery. I really hope you are saying this out of ignorance, instead of deliberate fact twisting.
