I've been working in these 2 countries and it comes to a point that I need to choose a country to settle down. I am Malaysian and I love my country very much but when looking from the other point of view, most of the data shows I should stay at Singapore.
Considering to settle down in Singapore, I will need to give up Malaysia nationality.
Looking at the long term, if I have children, they will definitely stay in Singapore and I will never back to Malaysia again (live permanently). Therefore, the situation will cause me to convert my nationality to Singapore.
Anyway, as a Malaysian chinese we are treated as 2nd class citizen. However, I just love the coutry, the place and the people...
I'd choose Singapore, because of convenience (even in KL it's harder to get around without a car), I'm more used to it, it is a bit safer, food is still great, better infrastructure.etc and still close to Malaysia or anywhere in SEA by air if you want to get away. But Malaysia is probably one of the best countries in SEA to live and work, all things considered.

Definitely Singapore. Malaysia seems alright, but like other issues I have with considering working in a developing country, how am I going to afford airfare home?
Yes, me too.. Singapore is good choose... see what happen after recent election .... increase price in oil, sugar, water and electricity bill....some more will coming...Living standard as high as Singapore...You still able to have S$2 chicken rice in Singapore but not ever RM6 in KL city....
Living in Malaysia especially KL city, no safe feeling... have to be alert all the time ...
I would actually "prefer" to live in Malaysia, but I would chose to live in Singapore I have lived in Singapore before and I always enjoyed traveling to Malaysia. Bigger country with more to do (especially islands and nature parks and such), cheaper alcohol, can watch movies and listen to radio in Cantonese, better Nasi Lemak, feels less crowded, etc. But Singapore is safer, cleaner, has better jobs, much better public transit, Katong Laksa, and things just seem to work better there.
I really like both countries. The food is amazing and the mix of cultures is very interesting. The landscape and all the tropical plants are quite beautiful too.
