Once Russia's henchmen, Cossacks now helping with Olympic security - CNN.com

So do you think that the Cossacks can live up to their reputation and really guard against terrorist threats at the upcoming winter olympics?

I'd take a team of Spetznaz over a group of Cossacks, lol.

This is nothing more than a marketing move trying to leverage personnel decisions which were probably influenced by shortage of manpower. I'm fairly curious to what type of law enforcement training they have and what their professional standards are.

Cossacks (there were many varieties) ceased to exist as somewhat authentic, self-containing & self-replicating social organisms almost 80 years ago. Every modern attempt on recreating Cossack organisations degenerates into little more than clownage of costumes and no substance. Modern mass societies don't allow for anything like Cossack to exist, the power of mass uniformity dissolves everything. "Cossacks" who'll be patrolling Sochi' street are little more than clowns, they don't represent anything "cossack", because it's dead for long time.
