I cease to expect people to respect other countries' sovereignty.

Most countries on the planet don't officially recognize Taiwan as a country either (no formal diplomatic relations).

Most developed, look at the HDI.
However, high HDI does not necessarily mean high quality of life so there are two different questions and rankings. HDI for the whole country does not reflect HDI for individual cities, especially large countries. High quality of life for its citizens does not necessarily mean high quality of life for non-citizen residents or expats or tourists (Middle East countries are notorious for favoring only citizens and no way for others to gain citizenship). There is some correlation to some of these but they are not the same. The biggest disparity is the measure of how happy people are vs how developed the country is. Some of these developed countries are among the most unhappy with the highest suicide rates.

Perhaps, the topic should be discussing the most developed economies of East Asia instead of the most developed countries of East Asia. I know there is little debate of Japan, South Korea and Singapore being sovereign nations. While with Hong Kong (which is part of China) and Taiwan which there are countries who do not recognize it as a country (I personally believe it is because it is run as a de facto country despite claims by China or despite some countries not recognizing Taiwan as an independent country- But that is another topic).

Hong Kong (though now part of China) seems to run as a separate economy from China. While Taiwan is a separate economy from China.

Hong Kong is not a country, but a Special Administrative Region in China.

not close. They haven't paved all their roads yet. India's infrastructure pales miserably in front to China's rapidly increasing subway systems, high speed rail, expressways and cross-sea bridges.

Honour killing seems still prevalent in India and females are still considered vastly inferior. It is years behind CHina, not to mention Singapore, Japan and S Korea.
