Now that China is becoming a superpower both economically and militarily, how are other Asian countries viewing China? Is there respect, admiration, anticipation of new opportunities, fear, uneasiness, or a combination of all? Do you see people in your country learning Mandarin more and more, whereas in the past they may have studied English?

You must not be familiar with the political situation in Asia. Let's just say, China is not popular with anyone right now, except for maybe the Koreans

If you mostly read English language news, it is all about how neighbouring countries view China as a "threat", which is not surprising. Even between China and Japan, they make it sound like China is always the more aggressive party, when China has never engage in any sort of military invasion of Japan.

I honestly do not know why the US and the UK, who have been so beligerent on world affairs meddling with so many countries' internal affairs are in a position to judge whether a rising power is a threat, a threat for their dominance, maybe. Of course it fits their interest for the UK to vilify China so that it can keep controlling East Asia (Japan, S Korea, Taiwan, Singapore), who wants a competitor?

I don't trust people's republic of the china because the flag is still red. You never ever trust a communist! Seeing how they treat the Tibetans, I wouldn't trust them as a superpower. They complain that the Japanese raped them (which they did) while they oppress the Tibetans. Rather turn Shanghai back into the Shanghai International Settlement.

Define "communist"? China doesn't need your trust. Who are you? You really think China is a "communist" country? Just because a country doesn't adopt the western style politican system doesn't mean it is "communist". It is authoritarian not communist.

As for tibet, you are brainwashed by English media. Tibet had a slavery system before 1949 and nobles like Dalai Lama were slave owners. Most average people didn't have accesss to basic stuff such as healthcare and education, because they were considered properties. Trust me, most of average Tibetans are a lot better off after 1949. All the nobility class were deprived their previleges and held deep grudge against the Chinese government, which US/UK smartly took advantage of and used for their own political gain.

You should really read more and have some independent thinking. All the China prosecuted Tibetans stories are nothing but US propoganda against a country it doesn't like. Today, a Tibetan enjoys far more freedom than a Han, the majority.

Turn back to international settlement? Well, don't worry, if you want colonizing, maybe it will be time for China to colonize wherever you are from, not the other way. In case you didn't notice, times have changed.

In the 1800 to early 1900s, the Western countries invaded China because they fear that a united China would be a bigger threat to Europe because history has shown that a united China is powerful as Ghengis Khan once had the largest empire in the world.

So all of the Western countries united and went to China and force China to open up trade or else they would attack and that is what the Chinese boxer rebellion was about when the chinese stood up against European Imperialists.

In all of modern history Britain and America has been the most imperialistic countries. Look at all of the countries that Colonies that Britain has gotten of course eventually even America didn't want to a colony anymore and revolted.

Today, the USA is the single most imperialistic country on this planet.

China is definitely significant to the nation's leaders, but I would say the general population still looks at them with despise.
