It's because Indonesian democracy is too free to let those exteremist groups exist.

Yeah, the only positive thing about dictatorship of Suharto is that he suppressed these groups of radicals.

Indonesia should look at Turkey and Kazakhstan to solve this problem. We don't need to back to authoritarian regime anymore.

Unfortunately with a lot of our population being uneducated, this may be tougher than applying a policy or looking up into another country who managed to create harmony between its religious population. But im pretty sure that in future that we will actually lived in peace as this country progresses, hopefully it didn't take another generation to do so.

Save for a few pockets (like Aceh), not very stereotypically Islamic! In fact they're even more liberal than Malaysia (anyone who's been to both Indonesia and Malaysia will know what I mean!) - and to the point that an out-and-out fan of heavy music (Jakarta Governor Jokowi) is a frontrunner in the upcoming Presidential Election! \m/

One thing I noticed between Malaysia and Indonesia is that Malaysians tend to have more Arabic-sounding names than Indonesians.

Most Indonesians have sanskrit sounding names such as raditya, andi, pradnya, kartika, dewi, sari, putra, gunawan etc etc (more or less with some Arabic names too mixed up in case they're Muslims), most of these Sanskrit based names are practiced by most Javanese and some tribalish names mainly in Eastern Indonesia and parts of Kalimantan (Borneo). Even the Christians retained their traditional names more than adopting a western sounding ones. Maybe because the general population didn't see Arabic practices as a must to follow of Islam and instead started blending it with the local practices instead, though some of them did practice Arabic culture, many tend to be hypocrites.

I think Sumatrans and Eastern Kalimantan have more Arabic sounding names than the rest of the country, in there it seems that Arabic practices are favored mainly by the Acehnese.

Some Indonesians changed their name to full Arabic names, mostly if they are following extremist religious mainstream sect or because it makes them feel hollier by being more "Arabic".
