I'm particulary curious what 'Children in the Construction Corps' refers to. Are they the offspring of some elite engineering fraternity scattered throughout China?

After the communists controlled Xinjiang, they established some military stations there.
Unlike the stations of US military forces, those in Xinjiang also work in farms and build infrastructures. Therefore they are both a military force and a workforce. Children there receive relatively good education, especially compared to rural areas in China. The majority are Han Chinese, but there are also Uyghurs and others.

In China there was a program to promote iodized salt. Most provinces sell iodized salt afterwards, but it may have failed to reach parts of Tibet.
What's the IQ of rural children and rural people in China in general? That's a much bigger difference IMO. Basically, your IQ can jump anywhere from 15-30 points, once you go from rural to urban, or undeveloped to developed.

I think the data here includes both rural and urban children. (Urban children are very unlikely to lack Iodine.)
I am not sure if they have separate data, but it will be true that there can be a big gap.
