According to this article anyway....

BBC News - Singapore named the world's most expensive city

I can't stop shaking my head......

It has one of the WORST climates in the world with literally the same weather every single day. I mean.....I'm no fan of winter and a ton of snow, but how God awful horrid to have all that humidity every freaking day with no end.

At least when its that humid in the Bahamas, I have beautiful sites like picturesque sandbars to look at, and of course, even there, it cools off by late October and isn't blazing again till April.

(Musha Cay Sandbar)

In Singapore its that H&H 12 months of the year, and you have NOTHING to show for it! No blue water, no nice beaches, no diving on prestine reefs, NOTHING!!

Must be fun to live somewhere NEVER cool enough to comfortably wear a business suit

And I haven't even touched on the lack of personal freedom compared to not just the USA, but most of the rest of the Western World as well (Canada, W Eurpoe, Australia, NZ)

Who the hell would want to live in that hell hole AND pay for that

You may not like my country and our culture etc , I respect that, but that doesn't give you the right and it is definitely rude to call a country a hell hole..

If the weather is the same every day, you'd probably get acclimated after a month or so. Manila is always hot as hell at first, but then after a few weeks, I get used to it and it's not really that bad.

Maybe Singapore's climate appeals to wealthy Chinese who live in colder climates? I dunno.

Yeah you do get used to it - to an extent, and most people spend their time in air conditioned offices, malls.etc.

It may not have beaches that beautiful (though it has beaches), but for $30 (on special) you can fly to Langkawi, Tioman, Thailand, Borneo, Philippines.etc.

I have no problem with Singapore's climate, it's better than Northwestern Europe
The thing i don't like about Singapore besides the cost of living are the strict (soft-)drugs and porn laws.

What the OP considers "hell" some people considers great weather. Singapore being close to the equator means that the daily temperatures are remarkably constant and rarely too hot or cold. In fact, every day is around 88-75.

Coming from a cold climate where there is always extreme and unpleasant weather, I'd consider Singapore's weather to be idyllic.

Besides, gorgeous beaches and other things the OP mentioned are close by if one really likes that stuff.

Doesn't Singapore provide government aid and housing for those with lower income?

Singapore is not a hell hole, it's just a ripoff. If it's more expensive than Tokyo, Osaka or Hong Kong, I would rather spend my money in the other cities.
