Does Beijing have the same high standard of living as Japan, South Korea, and fully developed Western nations ?

Or does Beijing have a lot of bone crushing poverty just like Manila and Bangkok for example ?

Too much pollution to be considered 1st world in modern times. 1st world in the world of the early '80's, maybe.

Poll results would be a lot closer if we were talking Shanghai instead of Beijing.

The locals are generally ok to rich, while the workers on low wage from rural China in Beijing are still poor.

True, though I've never seen the kind of crippling poverty in Beijing that I've seen in Manila. The poverty in some parts of Manila can be appalling.

Yes, lots of pollution, but that's because of Hebei province, it's heavy industrial neighbor. Comparing Beijing to Manila is just ridiculous.

I visited Beijing last in the mid-2000's and it was really coming up at that time. There were really first rate areas (similar to NYC Manhattan, as an example), but really poor, dilapidated areas, very close by. The contrast between rich and poor, was very significant. It needs a long way to go, before it is first rate.
