So does Thailand vs Philippines, the answer is pretty obvious..

I personally would vote Turkey over Indonesia when it comes to attractiveness, the Graeco-Roman history and the beautiful mosques and churches there is just a must see experience.

Iran is an amazing country from what I've heard. The history, architecture, landscape (mountains better than the Alps where you ski for 1/5 the cost), the people and their hospitability and the cuisine. Plus for non-Americans at least it's much easier to visit.

I like the idea of Turkey versus Russia (second Rome versus Third Rome for two fairly recent countries who arose out of empires who came out around the same time and both with complicated relationships with Europe each with one foot in Asia and one foot in Europe--plus Russia has actually the largest territory within Asia so could be counted as Asian in some sense).

I also like the idea of Indonesia versus Japan as two separate large island nations but with very different attributes and influenced heavily by mainland Asia civilizations.

That would leave South Korea as the odd man out if we restructured that way though. Maybe Australia (it's close to Asia) versus South Korea? But where would that put Papua New Guinea? Maybe restructure to Macau versus Timor-Leste, Sri Lanka verus Papua New Guinea and Taiwan versus New Zealand?

Why would you compare Australia to SK? They're nothing alike, very different reasons to attract.

Indonesia vs Japan doesn't make much sense either.

Turkey vs Malaysia or Kazakhstan.
Indonesia vs Vietnam.

Fair enough.

Malaysia is much richer and much more prosperous than Indonesia so it's not fair to compare.

The Malaysia/Vietnam comparison doesn't make that much sense either...

Malaysia and Indonesia are culturally similar and offer similar attractions, they're the most comparable.
