My heritage is Singapore and Malaysia, which is Southeast Asia, so I consider myself Southeast Asian after Australian.

I'm going to break my abstinence to this sub-forum just to say my piece about this. It's because there are incredibly stupid posters or trolls that keep on starting these racialist threads, enablers that keep replying to them, and poor modding. Any of these chronic and redundant racialist threads needs a one way ticket to the anthropology sub-forum. I enjoy talking and debating about Asian politics, travel, culture, and geography; but I absolutely refuse to be part of an asinine and irrelevant discussion about skin tone, race, "Mongoloids", and/or "Negritos." It severely dumbs down the entire sub-forum, and distracts from more pressing, important, and intellectual topics.

Then you should start more non-raced based topics here .

I've brought up many times the fact that physical looks and appearances don't define "Asians" in any meaningful way and would also like to learn more about the culture or civilization aspect of Asians on this forum too.

I've never seen anyone who self-identifies with a category such as "Mongoloids" in real life. People identify with their culture, nationality, political system etc.

They might not use the word 'Mongoloid' but in the West 'Asian' is short-hand for Mongoloid-type looking folks. Partly because of how non-Asians see them, a lot of disparate Asians tend to identify with each other as just 'Asian' no matter whether from Korea or Indonesia because of how they are seen.

Culturally you are Southeast Asian, but ethnically you are Chinese...correct?

By ancestry. Whether I'm still ethnically Chinese even if I don't speak any Chinese, or am not culturally Chinese in almost every other way is debatable. Some would say I'm not.

I think some of the race discussions are interesting on all the message boards across City Data. You learn a lot about the origins of different people. A lot of it stuff people didn't know. To me it's fascinating to learn of the ancient migrations of people all over the planet and the mixing that has gone on everywhere over time.
