Yup. That's why I hope Modi wins. If China could do it, so can India but like we both stated it requires a strong goverance. Democracy in India since Independence has been a sham. You a family ruling India since Independence on and off. The family of the first PM, Nehru continues to run and manage the Congress political party headed by Sonia Gandhi, an Italian lady. There is no relation between that family and Mahatma Gandhi, it was a political tactic to change their surname. The uneducated, illerate ppl of India were never thought the importance of voting or what a democracy is really all about. This group of ppl form the majority of the population. Times are changing and activists/NGOs have been instrumental in getting the msg out.

Oh really, didn't know that. So Indira and Rajiv Gandhi weren't related to Mahatma either?

Yeah, for all it's drawbacks, I feel China's centralist government is largely what pulled it out of poverty etc, something India lacked.

No relationship whatsoever, just a cheap political ploy regarding name recognition. Nehru is the father of Indira Gandhi, who is the mother of Rajiv and Sanjay Gandhi. Sanjay died in a plane crash. Rajiv married Sonia Gandhi who is an Italian woman. They had two kids, Priyanka and Rahul.

Nehru, Indira, and Rajiv were all PMs of India. When Rajiv was assassinated, Sonia was offered his seat, she declined to take care of the kids and work behind the scenes. She is the de facto leader of the Congress political party over there, which is a major party in India. Even though ManMohan Singh is the current PM, Sonia wields the power behind the scenes. She is trying to set up her son as the future PM.

They are all incompetent idiots who do nothing but engage in massive corruption. Since Independence, India has been ruled on and off by a family dynasty.

I agree China's centralist govt was the sole reason why China excelled. India could have also (with various reforms), but Mahatma Gandhi messed up. He decided to select Nehru as the first PM. This was a major blunder. There was another man by the name of Sardar Patel who would have transformed India. I read many of his thoughts and opinions. He was unbelievable! Honestly, a man well ahead of his time with great vision. It's not everyday you get a particularly good candidate in India.

I see, I don't know much about Indian politics but thanks for explaining. So you largely blame this legacy on India's present condition right now? What are some of the things they did wrong?
