What's wrong with more holidays?

I have never visited Singapore, so of course my observations are not as accurate in some ways as the feeling of the locals. I realize that.

Nothing is wrong with more holidays , just that our govt is stingy with them and it is like near impossible to have a single more public holiday than those 11 that are already given

We ARE acting opposite to the principles of natural selection. I mean, why is it that useful nations like Japan are having their population die off, and countries like the Phillipines and China have so many kids? Here, check out this video:

I agree with the sentiment that we need more good genes babies and less bad genes ones.
I think it's time for all 1st World Countries to issue a demand to all 3rd World Countries that unless you have less kids, we won't accept you anymore. It is not some kind of racism(although I don't know how you can solve racial issues without being racist) or xenophobia, but rather a way to save the planet and for mankind to evolve positively(I'm going to be frank and say, wonder why there are so many ugly people? The simple answer is that not enough attractive people are having kids, and too many unattractive people are having them.)

In addition, ever wonder that your life would be so much easier if you didn't have kids? "Voluntary depopulation" can only be a good thing. And no. no need to worry about extinction, as you can pretty much have kids any time you want.

You might find this doco interesting. So many kids in China? Ever heard of the one child policy? China's birth rate is already so low. India's birth rate is dropping too, as is the birth rate in much of the third world. Plus the US is no slouch either with over 300 million, plus PER PERSON the average American has a bigger eco footprint than about 100 Indians. How bout the privileged developed nations scale back their wasteful lifestyles as well to even things out?

I agree we all need to do more to reduce the strain on Earth, but you can hardly single out the third world.

As I said before the underlying issue is locals in Singapore not not happy with the mass no of immigrants and the govt this event is just a tool for them to show it to the govt, in a way the fillipinos are just victims in a way..

But in another way, they should know anti foreigner sentiment are high it would be best to lie low rather than be open which is what the PRCs, Brits, Americans and Indian Indians Over here are doing

Well how are these maids supposed to assimilate when they're confined to the house most of the day, hardly even allowed a day off? On the rare days off they socialise with their friends and celebrate things like this.

How many Singaporeans are of Filipino ancestry anyway? Would be interesting to know the stats. Well maids aren't allowed to be in relationships in most cases, so not many marry locals.

And those that aren't domestic workers, how many of them choose to get PR or citizenship?

It's funny because I was born a citizen of Singapore but renounced it when I turned 18 since I couldn't have dual citizenship, yet I've never really lived there.

well that's the problem. They want the maids to somehow assimilate and "behave" but they dont even have much interaction with locals to begin with. So of course they're going to keep acting like they're in the Philippines. How can you expect them to act otherwise? If you treat them like foreign second-class citizens, then dont be surprised when they act like foreign second-class citizens.

It's not just the birthrate, the total population needs to decline also. I mean, you can't expect the population to go up forever. However, I do agree with the fact that the West needs to change their lifestyle, especially the ones concerning the automobiles and oil, but at least they are trying to develop the hybrids(at least the Japanese do).

Regardless, you don't compound the problem by adding more people and more cars, thus needing more oil leading to more wars over oil, pollution, global warming, etc. This is in addition to all the trees, water, gas, electricity, etc. that are needed to support them.

Yes exactly. Of course, I'm not saying all maids are exploited and miserable, but I think the pay just seems low, I guess it's taking advantage of cheap labour the same way the first world takes advantage of cheap labour to manufacture goods. In this case it's a service.

I hope the government is putting in place better laws to protect their rights. Then again in such domestic situations the law is only as good as it is enforced.

Yes, of course for the resources we have, and how wealthy and commodities are distributed population pressures are very real. This documentary is arguing that the world's population is just stabilising and will probably peak at 10-11 billion, and the 'population explosion' is probably overstated... it's well worth watching even if you don't agree. The presenter seems quite well balanced and presents stats to back what he's saying up.

Haha I'm not competing with anybody. I'm just stating my views as an outsider, although I do feel I have some vested interest in Singapore. I have relatives there, a part of me is still Singaporean, via my mother and also visiting etc. I wish the best for Singapore, Singaporeans as well as the Filipinos working there. I have nothing against Filipinos (even though i might appear to be anti-Philippines to some).
