it clearly says "the church was an illegal structure that was four times the permitted structure size".

Of course the CNN can always read some more negatively about whatever happens in China.

Here is a long list of churches in Shanghai, none of which the evil PRC touches. They could all be demolished if the goalwere to persecute. http://www.shanghaiexpat.com/listings/271

It probably was indeed approved by officials via gift money. Thats why there are officials in custody... either that or they were members of the flock. Either way they were allotted a certain amount of space and went vastly over it.

They shouldn't have tried to circumnavigate the rules. Oh well, that'll teach em.
