Interesting. What disappointed you about it? I mean did it not deliver or meet your expectations?

Not at all really, i found it to be just a run of the mill big Asian City, I mean it's got all the markets, Night-life, shopping etc. you would ever expect, but not much else. Try to imagine what Beijing might be like without the Forbidden city, Tienanmen Square, Summer Palace and other temples and parks etc.

One big drawback was that I was in the city in 2004, and most of the current metro system had not been built at the time, getting around the city was not that easy.

2004 is a long time ago in China...it's probably changed drastically since. I was in Beijing in 2006, but I'm not sure if it's changed for the better since...

I am sure it has, but I doubt they have would have built many temples and inner city parks, during that time. Their might be a few extra good museums and art gallerias hopefully.

Yes, I will visit for a few days, and then explore the surrounding areas of Suzhou, Hangzhou, which interest me more. Next trip to China will be Yunnan, but not sure when that will be.

I don't think Disneyland will make a very big impact on foreign visitors. Target market probably is more mainland Chinese visitors. Been to Shanghai many times, and I don't have an urge to go back to visit just because of a new Disneyland. I have also visited all the Disneylands (L.A., Orlando, Paris, Tokyo, HK). I would rather go to Tokyo if in Asia. HK is my least favorite as the pushing and shoving is worst there among the Disney parks. Having visited Suzhou and Hangzhou, both are nice, but they're far from "heaven on earth". Just trying to take a taxi, a bus or a train is exasperating. While Tokyo is as crowded, people almost never cut in line and will at least pause and also help you to take the best photos there.

Yes the scenery is amazing and Lijiang/Dali is everything I dream of when I think of a quaint Chinese town .

That in a nutshell is what differentiates the Chinese from the Japanese in that regard...I imagine Shanghai might be even worse.
