Taipei MRT startling news drunks kill Hau 6:15 press conference - News

Quote:
Taiwan Network (microblogging) May 21 hearing, according to Eastern Broadcasting Network reported that around at 16:00 on the 21st, the startling news of the Taipei MRT drunk handheld butterfly knives random murder, two men and a woman now known no signs of life, 16 people to hospital emergency response, Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin will be at a later 6:15, the police held a press conference in Taipei Foreign instructions.
This just happened several hours ago.
Actually the murderer wasn't drunk,he was clear-headed,and has been planning to random murder people for a long time. And the casualties range from 3 to 4,depends on the sources since the number is still unclear. And he didn't carry butterfly knives,he just held....two knives on his hands.

This terrifies me.It happened in the station where I pass on a daily basis,I've decided that I'm gonna take the bus from now on.

Taipei is no longer a safe place. You might need to consider bringing some weapons with you if interested in paying a visit.

3 people killed in Taiwan subway stabbing spree - US News

Quote:
Street crime is extremely rare in Taipei, one of Asia's safest cities, and violent incidents are practically unheard of in the city's extensive and well managed subway system.
The latest casualty number is 4.

It is quite sad, but ask yourself how many other people in Taipei today went about their business as per normal and got home safe?

Not making light of whats obviously a horrible act that caused suffering and fear, but all told I think Taipei is as safe as it's ever been.

Of course this might sound less scary in foreigners' eyes, but really, this kind of random street violence is EXTREMELY rare in Taiwan.I think you understand Taiwan enough to know why I'm in such a shock,Taiwan sucks in many aspects but safety is never one of them.
And what I'm afraid of the most is the chain effects it might cause.Japan had a similar incident happened 6 years ago and it DID trigger some other maniacs....

A few women in India are raped and suddenly it's no longer safe. One single incident occurs in Taiwan and you're scared off. Whatever happened to statistics? To not letting the media scare mongers get to you? Don't matter, let the few ignorant types who believe this stay home.

According to who? Is the rate much higher than anywhere else? India is a nation or over a billion, countless people are victims of crime daily, so 60 a day or so is really not especially high when you put it in perspective.

Is India the Rape Capital of the World?
We're horrified by news reports of rape in India and feel lucky we don't live there. But the country with the highest rate of sexual assault isn't India—it's us

Americans are reading with horror as sexual assault after sexual assault unfolds in India. It’s easy to wonder, “What’s wrong with that country?” But we should be asking what’s wrong with the United States, too.

Rape and violence against women are a massive problem in India. According to the country's National Crime Record Bureau, crimes against women have increased by 7.1 percent since 2010. The number of rapes reported has also risen. Nearly one in three rape victims in India is under the age of 18. One in 10 are under 14. Every 20 minutes in India, a woman is raped.

And yet India only ranks third for the number of rapes reported each year. What country ranks first? The United States. In India, a country of over 1.2 billion people, 24,206 rapes were reported in 2011. The same year in the United States, a nation of 300 million, 83,425 rapes were reported. In the United States, every 6.2 minutes a woman is raped.
