I checked the beijinger.com website and noticed that Beijing is starting to have events such as Easter at hotels. Is that true - that China is slowly opening up. Here in SF Bay Area and most of the rest of the world - we are shelter in place completely and no public events for forseeable future.

Most of China has lifted the restrictions. In my hometown the restaurants are open and all businesses resumed.
However it is still not the same as before. Many people wear masks and people tend to avoid public transportation if possible.

China is the only country with Apple stores open now.

They've gradually opened back up. People are still being cautious but life is returning towards normal. I truly hope there isn't a second wave there.

Well yeah, they are behind the curve. It simply shows us the life cycle of the spread of the virus. Virus originated in China (gee thanks China!), they take countermeasures, and the curve flattens out and they open up. Meanwhile the virus spreads internationally and also takes countermeaures, but at a later date, and the curve will eventually flatten out and things will open up as well.

China is not the only source of viral outbreaks in the world. MERS came from the Middle East, Ebola from Africa and the Swine Flu outbreak of 2009 came from the US. But yeah all wet markets anywhere must go.

I don’t trust China’s numbers one bit. Their death rate exactly mirrored the new infection rate too closely.

China is not opening up fast, to prevent covid entering. Inter province travel within Mainland China is opened.

Local transmission is now stopped in China except HK. Beijing had a medium outbreak but it was tackled quickly within a few weeks. And it did not spread far.

Situation in Europe is now better than the US.
