My daughter in law lives in Ukraine. She went for a short trip to visit friend to Israel.
Day 2 there, she ended in intensive care unit, with basically all organs failing.
My son is there right now, assisting her. She's unconscious.
They bought 2 week trip insurance, that will cover max of 50 000 euro.
As I type, he is getting under some serious financial obligations pressure. What may happen, this, if he does not steer it all right, may result in their full financial hardship and draw friends and family into medical bills.
FOR THOSE WHO KNOW ISRAEL, what he needs to do to get out of this trap? Here in the USA, hospitals have federal funds etc, for such cases. They still pressure patients/relatives for payments, but it well goes into funds and tax write off.
I have no idea how this works in Israel. Allegedly, it's a private hospital in Jerusalem.

This is no longer true. Unless they are under Medicaid then medical bills follow you for life. They don't write it off as they now send it to a collection agency and add it to your credit report.
Yes, I found that too. Tourists are self pay or private insurance purchase or insurance coverage from country of residence. They have none of it. He has only part time income, and she didn't work for years due to 3 children in family. They basically homestead.
Paying 50-80 000 euro is simply impossible.

Lets' not hijack the thread. Please, keep in mind, that I am a small practice manager and my wife is RN in ICU. We KNOW it IS true. She just had a very similar case on her floor.
But, like I said, let's not hijack the thread.

We, also, went to schools and graduated, with solid degrees and jobs.
We are off any state support since 1998. We make very decent salaries and pay decent taxes. We helped our kids and they paid most of it anyway, to get through schools and get their decent education and decent jobs.
It's your family, help cover the bills. Israel is not a Welfare state for her so stop looking for freebies.
Also why would you use euros in this board when you are in the US using Dollars, She is from Ukraine using Hryvnia and Israel uses Shekels.
