If the Viets even begin to develop nukes, and that is assuming they actually can...they will be invaded and neutralized.
So wait... there was a point where China was less strong than Vietnam?? Was this before or after they helped the North Vietnamese with weapons and the training to use them against the US...?

Under Chinese control since '74. How long has Japan had control of the Spratlies? :X

Also, Vietnam isn't intetested in going nuclear, nor are they keen on letting the US, who waged a decade-plus long war there, from parking nukes on their border. For that matter, the US isn't interested in parking nukes on the border with their #1 trade partner, which also.happens to be the second strongest nation on earth.

Vietnam is a take-no-crap country, though. China could, theoretically, steamroll the whole place, sure. Theoretically, the US could have during its war with them. They didn't, because the only way to do so was to go nuclear or just do pure scorched earth. China, like the US, isn't about to sacrifice its place on the world stage by using nukes in what's badically a pissing match.

"Under Chinese control since '74. How long has Japan had control of the Spratlies? :X'...

WTF? When have the japanese ever control the Spratlys?

You need to get the Diaoyus and the Nanshas, Xishas and the Dongshas straight before you add your little two cents.

Nobody is talking about steamrolling vietnam itself. If they develop nukes, their facilities will most likely be surgically eliminated. The oil rig is in the middle of the sea, and viet guerrilla land tactics means nothing there. Chinese naval assets and air superiority are overwhelming. There is nothing the viets can do to China if the PLA decides to sink all viet naval and air assets assigned to that area. They need to be very careful.

Oops, i was typing that on the metro after a couple post-work beers. My bad. Damndest thing though, my two little cents are still worth more than your whole wallet...

As far as the nuke issue, of course it's not at risk of happening, that's why I posted that response. People were talking about Vietnam, China, and nukes.

You even think before you post ? I don't get it.
What should have been done ? Nothing ? While you're being lazy all day long in safety, people in Vietnam have to suffer because of the Communists.

I don't get what you're saying. So you're saying killing 4 million Vietnamese civilians, dropping countless bombs, agent-orange was justified??

Some of you are playing mental gymnastics. The point remains, either Vietnam needs to grow a pair/develop nukes or kow tow to the PRC, go home, recognize their ***** status, and permanently ****! The PRC will use strength to the maximum feasible extent to enforce their claims and it only respects strength.
