Because I work in the oil industry, I spend 85 to 90% of my time away from my family. I have a loving and understanding family and I think GOD for having an understanding wife. She has been mom and dad for the last several years. I travel between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Rio de Janeiro, and Houston. After careful reflection the wife and I decided to stay in the Honolulu Hawaii area. I have decided to take the entire Summer off for vacation. I planned for 6 months. The kids love the beaches, crime is low, they just love their school and my wife is involved in all of the the housewife activities she can. The kids are starting Summer Vacation and I promised them an Asian vacation. We have been blessed with 5 adorable children. They know the Hawaiian dialect better than most natives, LOL. We could have been together in Rio de Janiero but the wife felt safer with the kids in Honolulu since I travel extensively. The company would have paid for housing, school, a driver, security, etc. We are both natives of Los Angeles. Here is where I need the help, I know where we are going. I just want to know the best sights for families; because I always travel for business.
1. We are going to start the vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii, the kids want to see the black and red sand beaches.
2. We are going to Kyoto, Japan-need help with sights for kids.
3. We are headed to Tokyo, Japan-need help with sights for kids.
4 We will travel to Hong Kong- same help
5. We will travel to Shanghai-same help
6. We will travel to Beijing-same help.
7. After China we will travel to Singapore for a few days same help.
8. After Singapore Dubai for a week, I know we will drive the sand dunes, ski in the mall, swim and any other suggestions..
9 Abu Dhabi I have few sights in mind any suggestion appreciated.
10. I have 1 business meeting in Moscow any suggestions for the kids.
11. Then to Los Angeles to spend the rest of the Summer with Grandparents. Thanks for any suggestions, I want the kids and the wife to have the Summer of their lives.

Tripadvisor, Lonely Planet, Fodor's, various other travel sights...

Being most familiar with Singapore...things for kids...obviously Universal Studios and Sentosa in general. Lots of other fun activities. I feel US is more geared towards kids rather than thrill-seekers...Sentosa is probably worth 3 days, many fun activities, aquarium, beach (I mean nothing fantastic but nice enough).

Gardens By the Bay, at Marina Bay. Kids will probably love the two bio-domes and the skywalk/sky-trees.

Science Centre is pretty cool I guess.

The Zoo, Night Safari and new River Safari are obvious ones. You could squeeze in all 3 in one go, but I'd recommend the Zoo and Night Safari in one day, and the RS on another day.

Jurong Bird Park, one of the most renowned parks dedicated to birdlife.

Hiking in Bukit Timah Nature Reserve: pretty easy path, but depends how young your kids are too. Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve, in the north of the island, displays a mangrove eco-system with fauna like mudskippers, many birds, monitor lizards and the odd crocodile (usually at a safe distance).

Pulau Ubin has that rustic kampong charm but I haven't been.

Dunno how old your kids...it's a bit gory, but they might think Haw Par Villa has a sort of ghoulish, house of horror appeal...tho kids these days might not think it's such a big deal...either way, it's a good way to make the young ones behave .

Of course there are tons of shopping malls...probably boring for kids unless they get to buy a lot of things lol.

Dunno how fussy your kids are, but I'm sure they'll find some things they'll enjoy eating. Chicken rice is usually a pretty 'safe' bet. Plus the sweets, especially the colourful say ice kacang, tropical fruit juices etc at any hawker centre.

Default Family Summer vacation to Asia

Postman,

Thank you for the suggestions, they were very helpful. I promised the family a good Summer because I travel so much the entire year. As far as fun, since we live in Honolulu there is not more fun than living in Honolulu, but I want the family to experience something fun, yet not commercial. Again thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon. All you world travelers out there I am open to any suggestions. We have the bare bones, I'm feeling in the spaces, LOL.

Well Singapore can feel like a big 'theme park', and it's very commercial...but there are other things, I dunno how much your kids would appreciate cultural things like Little India or Geylang, Bugis, Joo Chiat/Katong, Chinatown, Old City.etc. A cruise down the river at night is a must-do (very cheap), plus the natural things i mentioned.
