I would choose HK.
Me too, but not because of the "freedom", more to do with the air pollution. And I hate the layout of Beijing (all the stupid "rings") and the horrible traffic. Beijing won't rank one of the top 15 Chinese I would live in.

I don't like HK that much either because of the ultra density and the workaholic culture. The sound of Cantonese annoys me too. But I will pick HK all things considered.

It is not hard for us to imagine how people living there feel about the change.
Fortunately HK and Macau are now part of China again after a century being colonized by foreign powers.

BTW, you can enjoy sea and mountains in HK, and avoid the density if you are super rich

regarding the last sentence, that's exactly why i don't like HK. Cost of living is so high that only the uper rich can have a good life. There are better places to live in China than Hong Kong.

And if I were super rich, I wouldn't want to live in HK either. There are so many wonderful places if money isn't an issue.

None of the non-white ones can even compare to the development of former Japanese colonies like South Korea and Taiwan (and no don't bother comparing wealthy oil rich states or city-states to Taiwan and South Korea).

Well, instead of pontificating about splitting Chinese territories up, why not shift gear and try something new???

԰-Ϸձ -6park.com

Maybe Japan will get out of its recession funk when it's split into three sections, run by three different countries.

Everbody "deserves" independence, but you would not necessarily be doing them a favor by casting them adrift in their own country, with few resources and the enmity of their neighbors.

Make a list of all the countries in the past few decades who have acquired independence, and see now many of them are doing better than they did as a part of a larger country. At what price did the gain independence, and was it worth it?

No, for the most part, it wasn't. But of course, it makes the freak groupies happy and the folks at CNN and BBC go nuts with sensational "human" stories about the "spirit of freedom." and "struggle against tyranny." It's all to make money, sell ads while playing with people's lives, just like overthrowing dictators in those spring movements and color revolutions. Look where Libya, Iraq, Egypt and Syria is now....Who suffers but the regular people.

I voted for Kurdistan, but also would have chosen Tibet.

There should never be a "Palestine". The Palestinians should be deported from Gaza & the West Bank and sent back to Egypt/Jordan or whatever other Arab hellhole their ancestors came from. Why on Earth would one want to put an Arab state smack dab in Israel when the Arab states all over the Middle East are dissolving? Not to mention that the Strip and the West Bank are being governed by different parties. If there's not even a unity government, why should there be a state? Israel should annex this land and send the Arabs away.
