I'm planning to visit a country in Asia with my mother and friend for about 2 weeks in next year's vacation, it's still far away but I'm curious to know how it is to spend summertime in China at places like Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai etc.

Where are you from originally?

I'm just asking because I notice that in Europe, for example, it's high tourist season with people enjoying the good weather that has finally arrived. Plus vacation times. That's generally true as well in Northern cities in North America, like Chicago, Minneapolis, etc.

It's usually quite hot and humid in Asia. Of course people still travel around, but they travel around all the time all year around. I can't think of a BAD time to visit Northeast Asia. It will be HOT though. Hot and humid. But people still walk around and explore of course despite that.

Warm and humid. The best time of year to visit these places is October or November.

Hot and humid. Expect lots of smog an pollution, especially in Beijing. There'll also be flash thunder storms in Beijing because summer is the rainy/humid season in northern China.

To be honest, summer is probably one of the better times to visit Beijing and Shanghai. You do not want to visit Shanghai during the winter time, because southern China (all cities south of Yangtze River) does not get adequate heating in the winter due to energy shortages. Beijing in the winter tends to be cold and dry, not very pleasant to visit.

the east coast of Asia is like the east coast of north america. In the north you get hot and humid summers, and cold winters. The south you get hot and humid summers, and not so cold winters.

Both Beijing and Shanghai are GROSS in the summer months. Heat combined with humidity and deadly pollution....I would never visit China in the summer months except to Qingdao (my favorite CHN city!).

Like previous posters said, it is not an ideal time to visit China in the high summer time.

You could experience 40 days with high over 35C/90F with very high humidity.

The best time to visit Beijing and Shanghai is the fall season, such as in October or November. It can still be oppressively hot in September (or as early as late May).

We are just getting out of the extreme humidity and heat down here in Guangdong/HK. Unless you have a reason to come, or it's your only available time, or you don't mind the heat, I'd say to wait a bit. Now, in October, it's quite pleasant - really sunny today, warm but with a cool breeze. If you head to more northern cities, you'll see leaves turning.

Really? Taiwanese has been quite cool these couple of weeks, and I've always thought that HK and Taiwan had basically the same climate.
